Birmingham City Council today launched its 2016+ budget consultation, setting out its financial plans for 2016/17 – 2019/20.
As well as setting the budget for 2016/17 in March, the Council is preparing a plan to ensure that it maintains a balanced budget in the future. This plan takes account of the announcements that the Government has already made about the money available to local councils like Birmingham. However, the Government will be making some further announcements about the financial settlement in the next few weeks. Everyone expects that this settlement will again be a challenging one, leaving the Council having to make further spending cuts of over £250m over the next four years.
The consultation is an opportunity for everyone in the city – residents, businesses, community groups and voluntary organisations – to have their say about the budget plans.
