Monthly Archives: December 2012
A number of residents have been in touch to ask what the arrangements are for collecting refuse over the Christmas and New Year period.
Briefly, there will be no collections on either Christmas Day or Boxing Day. If your black bag collection falls on 25 December, the next collection will now take place on Tuesday 1 January. Recycling collections due on Christmas Day will now take place on Tuesday 8 January.
Black bag collections due on Boxing Day will now be made on Wednesday 2 January and recycling collections set for that date will now take place on Wednesday 9 January.
The city’s five recycling centres will be open as usual each day, except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
I’ve received notice from the Council’s Planning team of an application to redevelop the site of the Tile Cross Baptist Church and Church Hall in Shirestone Road.
The proposals would see the existing buildings demolished and replaced with 9 new two and three bedroom houses. You can see the full details on the City Council’s Planning Online website, by clicking here and then typing in this planning reference number: 2012/07685/PA.
I’m keen to know what residents think about these plans, so please do drop me a line using the Contact Me page of this website.
The Citizens Advice Bureau will be holding free advice surgeries for local residents, starting in the New Year.
CAB are able to provide advice and guidance on an extensive range of problems and concerns. You can find the times, dates and locations of these sessions by clicking here.
Please note that these sessions are open to residents of Shard End Ward only (Shard End, Tile Cross, Kitts Green, Lea Village and parts of the Glebe), so you may be asked to provide evidence that you live within the Ward.
For more information, please call the Pilot Partnership on 0121 675 8697.
I’ve just had details of the street works planned for various locations across the Ward over the next few weeks:
Carriageway resurfacing – Berrowside Road and Bradley Road
This is scheduled to take place in the week ending 11 January. The work will last for up to five days and will take place between the hours of 8am and 6pm. Both roads will be closed to traffic while the work is underway, but pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will be retained.
If you have any questions about how these works may affect you, or if you have any special access requirements, please call the Highways team on 0121 303 6644 and request Option 2. They will be happy to assist you.
Work will take place over the next three weeks to remove the following:
Laburnum tree outside 383 Heath Way. The Council will replace the tree with a younger, healthier tree of an appropriate species for the location. The replacement tree will be planted during the winter planting season of October – March. This is the best time to plant young trees and gives them the best chance of survival.
Dead Hawthorn tree outside 399 The Radleys. This will also be replaced with an appropriate tree during the winter planting season.
We’re heading to Guardian Angels Primary School, Hurst Lane, for the final ward meeting of 2012.
The meeting takes place on Monday 10 December, starting at 7pm. Items on the agenda include an update on the ongoing Shard End Crescent development, the Cole Valley cycle route and an update from the local policing team.
All residents are welcome. Hope to see you there!
